Evolution of Man

Posted in 1Rooster

I have to admit that I’ve never really agreed with the premise of this blog.  I happen to know justachik1, um, intimately.  She doesn’t suck at being a woman any more than any of you do.  Well, based on what I’ve read here so far, one of you maybe, kinda, sucks.  (NOTE:  I’ll be entering the witness protection program now, just in case ChickNorris29 thinks I’m talking about her.) In fact, justachik1 is so good at being a woman that, to steal a phrase from Jack Nicholson in the movie As Good As It Gets, she makes me want to be…

My Brother’s Keeper

Posted in thatchik30

I recently traveled to my hometown and just as he always is, my brother was there to meet me at the airport. Every single time I travel home, I feel as though I am giving him somewhat of a reprieve from being the primary caregiver to our parents. No, neither is sickly, fragile, or dependent but when emergencies, major or minor occur, my brother is the one to rush to their respective homes or to the emergency room. My brother dutifully texts or calls me to let me know what is happening.   When he calls, I can hear the slightest…

Sleep Farts and Other Inconveniences

Posted in ChickNorris29

Girls don’t fart. That’s how it’s been since I’ve been with the old man, even though I’m pretty sure he doesn’t care. I’ve never been able to do it in front of a boyfriend. Some couples are pretty free with that kind of stuff, even you creepy couples who poop in front of each other (you know who you are) but I could never, ever, cut one in front of him. Well, not on purpose. I’m a classy lady, obviously. It gets harder and harder to hide the fact that, sometimes girls are gross too. He found a box of…

Off the Catwalk

Posted in somechik28

There are many factors that influence the way we view and consequently judge other people. I mean, yeah ideally, we shouldn’t let our opinions of someone depend on their physical appearance; however, if I see you wearing a Kappa Frappa Chino sorority tee-shirt, shorts made of a loose thin cotton material which were created using less than half a yard of fabric and some high-top white Converse I’m going to assume that I could not have an intelligent conversation with you. The thing is our clothing choices give others material through which they can use to make assumptions about our…

Another Mother of the Year

Posted in olechik27

Well – I get M.O.Y yet again!! I realize that I cannot be everywhere at the same time…but I should be.  Yesterday was one of those crazy days when all of my kids were going in totally different directions.  This is a regular occurrence in our house just given the ages – 9, 10, 15, 17, and 20…  One has a party, one is at a friends, one is working, one has senior pictures and the last one has a city league championship game to play.  All during the same time period.  Yay! Ok – I can get the one…

The Annual Fall Of Fall

Posted in chix2six

Every Fall I fall. Every Autumn I have a sense of unhappiness and lack of fulfillment. I get restless and unsatisfied with myself. It is a cycle I have experienced annually for quite a few years. In October of 2006 I wrote the following… I am… woman, lost, unsure, scared, full of it, weird, wondering, lazy, wanting to be different, shut down, different on the inside as opposed to the outside, wandering, understanding, full of tears, triggered by the slightest thing, questioning – When will I get to the point in my life that I can live in the flow,…

Bah Humbug Halloween

Posted in Chik25

I dread Halloween! Don’t get me wrong. I am all over the ridiculously large bags of candy that you can buy…for trick-o-treating, of course. I like the walking around, the sipping on an adult beverage, and the visiting of neighbors, as the kids run amuk in the neighborhood. I don’t even mind the fact that Halloween items are displayed in the stores at the end of August. What kills me, year after year, are costumes and dressing up. I have children who spend the six months prior to Halloween, if not a whole year, thinking and planning their costumes.  When my son was 4, after a great night…

Challenges

Posted in SpaChix

WHAT’S WITHIN YOU IS STRONGER THAN WHAT’S IN YOUR WAY. I seriously love a challenge. Whether it’s exceeding a budget goal, finishing a work deadline, reading the last page of a book or completing the final obstacle of a super hard mud run, it’s rewarding to finish something you’ve started.  There is almost nothing as exciting as feeling that sense of accomplishment. I recently experienced that sense of accomplishment– my organization teamed up with No Barriers USA to summit a mountain with the organization’s founder Erik Weihenmayer.  Erik was the first blind climber in history to reach the summit of…

I’ve had a shitty past few weeks so this song has been playing in my mind and felt it was a better blog to post than my actual thoughts…   I hate the world today, you’re so good to me I know but I can’t change tried to tell you but you look at me Like maybe I’m an angel underneath, innocent and sweet Yesterday I cried, you must have been relieved to see the softer side I can understand how you’d be so confused I don’t envy you I’m a little bit of everything All rolled into one I’m…

Digital Detox

Posted in Chick21

My teenage daughter’s iPhone has become an extension of her hand, always attached and ready to go. I don’t even know what color my child’s eyes are anymore – they are always looking down at that little glowing screen. Ok, yeah I get it, part of it is that she’s not interested in me anymore. But the gadget is just so addictive and enticing – I’m starting to understand what all the technology addiction talk is about. Have I created a monster? We used to have restrictions on her phone use. It would go in the kitchen drawer at dinner,…
