I’m sitting here in the Vegas airport waiting for my flight home and I’m wondering why I agreed to be apart a part of this blog. I suck at deadlines, I think I’m super boring and I know, without a doubt, I’m a horrible writer. I think that justachik1 signed me up without my actually saying yes. I may even still have the text that says exactly that! :-p
But… I really love this blog and enjoy reading each of your stories every day. I thank you all for being amazing women who really don’t suck at being women! So this month, I’m gonna write about how I met justachik1. I don’t remember all the details, this will be my best version of it . ☺
Flashback to the summer of 1988, right before senior year of high school. (feels like a million years ago) I met a guy the last few weeks of summer break and we starting ‘dating’. He was a nice enough guy and we laughed a lot.
School started and things were going well. I was on the swim team, back at the high school I wanted to graduate from… where I was again with all my friends. (I moved away for junior year) The boy was on the football team and working part time at the local radio station.
I’m not sure how far into the school year it was… but I meet this awesome girl. A mutual friend introduced us and we hit it off right away. We somehow got on the subject of boys (like teenage girls do) and one of us was talking about the guy we were seeing. Then we realized we were actually ‘dating’ the same boy!!
I’m pretty sure the boy never wanted justachik1 and I to ever meet, let alone start a friendship, but we did. Instead of being mean and hateful to each other, (like most girls do) we laughed at it, with no hard feelings, and started a good friendship. It was one of the things that I have always admired about Justachik1. She could have hated me and been angry for ‘stealing’ her boyfriend, but it was the total opposite. And this is just one reason why she sure as hell does not suck at being a chick!
Our friendship remained throughout the whole school year. The boy got over it and we all remained friends, even after he and I ‘broke up’. We were at our 10 year high school reunion and had a picture taken of the 3 of us and laughed at it all. (yes, I still have this picture)
Many friends have come and gone since then, but justachik1 has remained in my life, from a distance most of the time, but I’m very grateful for her friendship. And to this day, I still can’t hear the song ‘Brass in Pocket’ by the Pretenders without thinking of her.
Love you lady!
