“Frankly” Speaking…Serendipity Happens

Posted in 1FineChik

“Vital lives are about action. You can’t feel warmth unless you create it, can’t feel delight until you play, can’t know serendipity unless you risk.” ― Joan Erickson Serendipity, duplicity, God’s plan, magical, or the cosmos? Whatever it is, it is happening to me these past few weeks. Grab a cup of coffee and listen to this story . . . One of the top romantic movies is “Serendipity”. The chance encounter. The instant connection. The familiarity of a stranger. Yes, I love the thought of destiny bringing two souls together. It’s the same for most of us, I imagine.…

Dear Author…

Posted in Chika12

I love to read. I have always loved to read. I am a voracious reader; a devourer of books in big, gulping page-fuls. I get nervous, short of breath and feel a distinct tightness in my chest when I have finished a book and realize that I don’t have another immediately waiting for my consumption. I read somewhere that you shouldn’t have a stack of books next to your bed because it causes some kind of anxiety. But I must have a stack of books, each patiently waiting to be picked up and read in turn, based on its library…

That’s My Boy

Posted in McChik10

Recently while chatting with a friend we got onto the subject of our kids. Her daughter had got into some trouble at school, nothing serious just some silly stuff. And, this got me thinking about my son – my wonderful, handful of a son. So I thought I’d share one of my his finest tales. When my son was 4 years old, we enrolled him in preschool. He went there Monday to Friday. Three days a week he would be there till around noon, the other two he would stay there all day to around 2 pm. My husband and I…

Just Jokes

Posted in Gr8fate

I thought I would just share some of my favorite jokes as of lately. Tell them at work or home and bring a little laughter to the world. -A guy is turning 90 and his friends want to make it a special day. They hire a prostitute who knocks on his door, throws open her coat and announces, “I’m here to give you super sex.” The guy thinks a few seconds then says, “I’ll take the soup.” -There was a Catholic priest, rabbi, and preacher who got together once a week for coffee at the local Starbucks. The topic of…

You Be The Judge

Posted in C7

The story you are about to read isn’t really a good dinner party story. But when this happened to me, I went to work and talked about it. Not sure if it was out of embarrassment, shock, trauma, but for whatever reason, I had to share it. You be the judge. Would you have done the same? Monday morning. Rushing around, trying to get everything I need so I can leave the house on time. Hurry. Hurry. If I don’t leave now, I’m going to get caught in morning rush hour traffic. I fly from the kitchen, to my bathroom,…

Friendship

Posted in starchiksix

As I have gotten older, friendships have started to mean more to me. As a kid, it was nice to have a bunch of friends. Sleepovers, play dates, someone to pass notes back and forth to. That was fine for then, but now things are different. In highschool, I lost a lot of friends over a boy. I met this guy outside of school. We ended up working together. Mind you we were all of 17 and 18. What I didn’t know about this boyfriend was he was a womanizer. Come let’s be honest. Even at 30, 40, etc women…

Stepping on Ducks

Posted in Chic#5

This is my life… I live with a comedian. No, I do not mean an actual, professional comedian like Gabriel Iglesias or Dane Cook…I am referring to my 4 year-old daughter. Those of you who either have kids, or have been around young children (e.g., nieces, nephews, cousins, students, etc.) can probably relate…the things that come out of their mouth…there is no filter and it is hysterical. At our house, there is no filter, and every location is open game for one of her comical acts. Trust me when I say the girl lives on a stage! From small comments…

Financial Freedom

Posted in 4ChickaChickaBoom

For about two years I have listened to Dave Ramsey on the radio, and although I do not follow a certain religion, I found myself totally intrigued by his message about handling finances. I listened to his many followers who went through his Financial Peace University, both single and married couples, call in and yell out “We’re Debt Free!” He is an excellent teller of story and his abilities to tie in witty analogies along with a little religion leads to a program that is both inspirational and practical. So two weeks ago, I decided to sign up my husband…

This Is Just To Say

Posted in La Segunda Chica

This is one of my favorite poems. This Is Just To Say I have eaten the plums that were in the icebox   and which you were probably saving for breakfast   Forgive me they were delicious so sweet and so cold William Carlos Williams Whenever I read it I imagine a woman, leaving her lover’s house in the morning while he is still sleeping, eating the plums and leaving a note on the icebox door. It says “forgive me,” but she doesn’t really mean it. I am admittedly painting with a broad brush here, but when it comes to…
