New Journeys

My baby started high school this month.  Obviously she’s not a baby, but she’s MY baby. My parents were and are great parents but never gave me advice. They more or less threatened my life and told me to be good and graduate. Here’s my advice I gave leading up to her first day of high school. Be open-minded. There are a ton of opportunities in high school. Some that you may not be accustomed to. Strongly consider them as the may help mold the way to your success. Stay focused. There are distractions. Friends and boys. I am willing…

What’s Your Favorite Book?

Posted in StoryChick24

“What’s your favorite book?” This is one of my least favorite questions to be asked because I don’t have an answer for it. I don’t have a favorite book. It is impossible to choose. I’ve read too many wonderful books in my life and to choose just one as a favorite isn’t something I can do. Nor is it easy to give a top 2, 3, 5 or 10 list. There are too many factors that go into making those choices. Part of the trouble of picking a favorite comes because I find myself tailoring the list to the person…

PSA On Behalf of Pregnant Women

-THIS IS A PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT FOR YOU RUDE ASS BITCHES WHEN DEALING WITH A PREGNANT WOMAN- But first, a quick update on past posts: 1. I still have a filthy mouth despite the fact that my little 4 month girl fetus can hear me. 2. I FINALLY stood up to Old Lady Bully Daisy after another typical encounter. Then she fell and broke her leg that day and I sent her a card. 3. My Perfect Husband is technically 1 for 1 on the baby making stats. We have only had one “uh-oh” sex session, which got me pregnant.…

Life Is A Sport

So I don’t know if it’s the moon phase, my hormones or just this time of year, but I’m overly emotional these days.  You know the days?  When every little thing makes you a little weepy?  Yesterday, I had two episodes.  One was just an incredibly sweet story about a husband and wife and the lengths they go for one another.  The other was a damn commercial.  Yes, a commercial. In my defense, it was during the Olympics and I was already on emotional overload watching those athletes continue to demonstrate all that’s good about sports and teamwork and life.…

Re-Connect with Friends

As I sit across from my college buddy, who I hadn’t seen in 27 years on a beautiful patio at a Snowbird resort, I think about how important personal history is. How important deep friendship and connection and quality relationships that truly bring happiness to our lives. I had followed “Jane” for years on Facebook and could see that she had survived her mission, had lived in Utah and Idaho, her partner and she appeared to have kids. I saw she liked birds and was working in our field of Social Work, as we had both decided at Utah State,…

Driving Mr. and Mrs. Daisy

FROM THE ARCHIVES It’s Happening!!! My role as a daughter is now changing to that of a caretaker. It’s been slow over the last ten years, a minor surgery here, a medical concern there, but my parents always bounced back swinging hard. And from a 1,000 miles away they seemed to handle it with neighbors and son. But now, it’s a full blown move to “my city”. I’ve wanted it, asked for it, and it’s here! I sometimes felt that my other siblings got their daily or weekly time when their kids were small and I was jealous of what it…

Helen Keller is my hero.  She has been for a long time.  Some of the reasons are obvious–who she became despite and because of her disabilities, her impact.  But even more so, she is my hero because of what she has taught me (even though she died a year after I was born) about learning and love and being a human being.  Her influence has changed the way I see the world. I read her autobiography The Story of My Life every few years.  I picked it up yesterday because I needed her.  It’s been a rough few months for…

Politics, Religion & Sex

Posted in justachik1

I’ve decided the next time someone starts talking to me about politics, I’m going to ask them how they feel about blow jobs or maybe even anal sex. I mean, why not? It appears there is no topic off limits anymore. There used to be a time when you simply didn’t discuss politics, religion or sex.  It was rude, distasteful.  I miss those times. Admittedly, as a young girl, I didn’t get it.  I remember asking a family friend who they were going to vote for in the upcoming Presidential election.  The room became awkwardly silent and my mom told me…
